UK Home Secretary visited PM Masrour Barzani

The British Home Secretary congratulated the Prime Minister regarding the victory in the Kurdistan Regional parliamentary general elections, she pointed to it as “a successful election process”

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani welcomed the UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper on Thursday, she was accompanied by His Majesty's Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hitchen and Andrew Bizley the Consul General in Erbil.  

According to the Office of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Prime Minister, the meeting discussed the development of bilateral relations and efforts to combat illegal immigration. 

The British Home Secretary congratulated the Prime Minister regarding the victory in the Kurdistan Regional parliamentary general elections, she pointed to it as “a successful election process”

Cooper also highlighted the strong position of Kurdistan Region as an important and strategic partner for her country in fighting against the terrorism and security challenges.

The Prime Minister extended the gratitude for the support and cooperation received from the United Kingdom, also reiterated the Kurdistan Regional Government's will to strengthen the bilateral relations and the common interests between both states. 

In a message posted through the official account on the X platform, the Premier stressed that UK is a valued partner. 

Both sides agreed on the importance of promoting joint cooperation and coordination to combat illegal immigration, premeditation crime and drug trafficking.

In another part of the meeting, views were exchanged on the reforms carried out by the Kurdistan Regional Government in the fields of digitalization of the public services and banking system, especially, the project (My Account).
