KRP Nechirvan Barzani, Italian Ambassador discuss regional development, election, bilateral relations
The newly appointed Italian Ambassador to Iraq Niccolò Fontana expressed his delight in his first visit to the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing his country’s stance on the importance of bilateral relations between Italy and the Kurdistan Region.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Tuesday, the Kurdistan Region’s Presidency announced in a statement that the Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed the newly appointed Italian Ambassador to Iraq Niccolò Fontana.
The Regional President congratulated the diplomat on starting his duties and diplomatic assignment and expressed full support and cooperation from himself and all the relevant parties within the Kurdistan Region for the success of the diplomat’s mission.
Kurdistan Region’s President Nechirvan Barzani also reaffirmed the desire to further develop, enhance, and expand relations with Italy.

Amb. Fontana expressed his gratitude for the support and cooperation of the Regional President and all relevant parties in the Kurdistan Region.
He reiterated that his country views its relations with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in high esteem. “For this reason, Italy is working to expand and reinforce its ties with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in all fields,” the statement highlighted.
Another topic of discussion between the two sides was Erbil-Baghdad relations, KRG’s Parliamentary Elections, the recent regional developments, and in particular the unfolding events in Syria.
