ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi security forces have heightened their state of alert along the border with Syria to prevent any potential security threats, a military commander told Kurdistan24.

Speaking from the border town of Qa’im, Saif Ali, a Kurdistan24 correspondent, reported that Iraqi army units and security forces are employing advanced surveillance technologies, including drones and special cameras, to ensure comprehensive monitoring of the area.

“We assure our citizens that our borders with neighboring Syria are fully protected,” the commander said. He emphasized that safeguarding Iraq’s borders, particularly in the northeastern regions near Syria, remains a top priority. The commander highlighted that dedicated border guard units are actively stationed to deter unauthorized crossings.

He also underlined the pivotal role of Iraq's intelligence agency in tracking potential threats. “We are closely monitoring all terrorist movements. If they attempt to approach our borders, we will respond with maximum force and prevent them from entering our territory,” he said.

The border area, especially near Qa’im, has been a focal point for regional security due to ongoing instability in parts of Syria. Iraqi authorities continue to bolster defenses to ensure the safety of their citizens and maintain territorial integrity.
