Syrian opposition broadcasts first statement on state TV after taking control of Damascus

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - In a significant development on Sunday the Syrian opposition group, identified as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, broadcast their first official statement on Syrian state television from Damascus.

The broadcast featured multiple opposition members delivering a statement from the main studio, declaring: "Thanks to Almighty God, Damascus has been liberated, the oppressive Bashar al-Assad has been overthrown, and all prisoners will be released."

The Damascus Liberation Operations Room, as announced in the statement, called on citizens to protect all state properties, emphasizing their vision of "Syria for all Syrians across all segments of society."

Earlier today, opposition forces reportedly gained control of Damascus and the Presidential Palace. According to media reports, President Bashar al-Assad departed via aircraft, last detected flying over Homs airspace before disappearing from radar tracking systems, heading to an undisclosed location.
