ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - In an attempt to expand their territorial control, Syrian opposition forces have claimed they have successfully taken control of the center of Manbij city and several villages in western Deir ez-Zor after heavy clashes with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF - Hêzên Sûriya Demokratîk).
According to Kurdistan24 sources, Syrian opposition forces have been able to control Manbij's city center after two days of constant fighting in northern Syria's Aleppo province.
The attack has extended beyond the city center, with opposition forces controlling the majority of nearby villages and continuing their advance.
The military developments have at the same time spread to southeastern Syria, where opposition forces have launched intense attacks against SDF positions in both northern and southern regions of Deir ez-Zor province.
These operations have resulted in the seizure of several villages in the province's western sector.
This latest attack follows a pattern of territorial gains by opposition forces that began last week with the capture of Tall Rifat during their advance on Aleppo.
The situation has grown more complex in Deir ez-Zor, where the removal of Syrian regime forces resulted in a power vacuum that the SDF initially filled, taking control of the city, its airport, and seven surrounding villages.
