KRP Nechirvan Barzani, International Coalition Commander discuss security cooperation

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Tuesday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Maj. Gen. Kevin C. Leahy, Commander of Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) to discuss enduring security developments and cooperation in the region.
The meeting, attended by the KRG Minister of Peshmerga Affairs, concentrated on the recent security situation in Iraq and Syria.
Both sides reiterated the significance of strengthening cooperation between the Peshmerga forces, the Iraqi army, and the international coalition forces.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani stressed the significance of sustained international coalition support for Iraq and commended the existing joint coordination with allied forces in facing terrorist threats.
He remarked that ongoing partnership between all parties continues to be the key to ensuring and strengthening security across Iraq.
Maj. Gen. Leahy, for his part, applauded the crucial role of the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga forces in the battle against terrorism.
He reiterated the coalition's commitment to supporting the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in preserving peace, stability, and eliminating the persistent threat of ISIS.
Both sides also encouraged for the continuance of joint coordination and regular consultations to deal with security challenges and ensure stability in the region.
The meeting further covered several other topics of mutual interest, reflecting the shared commitment to regional security and cooperation.
