PM Barzani, CJTF-OIR commander discuss regional security and Peshmerga reforms

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday received General Kevin Leahy, Commander of Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) in Iraq and Syria, alongside a high-ranking delegation, to discuss pressing regional security matters and ongoing cooperation, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The meeting addressed the current situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Syria, emphasizing continued efforts to enhance collaboration in combating ISIS and broader terrorist threats. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security and stability in the region.
Prime Minister Barzani and General Leahy also exchanged views on developments in Syria. They stressed the importance of ensuring security and stability in the country while upholding and respecting the rights of Kurdish communities and other groups within Syria.
Another key focus of the discussions was the progress of unifying the Peshmerga forces and the ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs. The leaders underscored the importance of these initiatives for bolstering the region's defense capabilities and fostering greater operational efficiency.
