“Downtown area to be pedestrian-only on Fridays”, says Erbil Traffic Directorate
The mix of pedestrians and vehicles on the streets constantly causes congestion and creates an unsightly appearance in the market area streets.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Friday, the Erbil Traffic Directorate announced that due to high pedestrian traffic in downtown Erbil, particularly in the Sheikhallah Bazaar and the area in front of Fountain Park near the citadel, these areas will be designated as pedestrian-only zones.
The directorate clarified that on Fridays, large numbers of citizens and tourists visit downtown Erbil, especially Sheikhallah Bazaar and the Fountain Park in front of the citadel.
The mix of pedestrians and vehicles on the streets constantly causes congestion and creates an unsightly appearance in the market area streets. Therefore, it has been decided that movement in the city center will be restricted to pedestrians only from 1:30 PM until 8:00 PM.
The statement also clarified that normal vehicular traffic in the city center will resume after the specified time period.
