INSS thwart planned terror attack in Khurmatu

According to intelligence information, the suspect was identified as a member of the so-called "Wilayat Kirkuk" organization.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) announced on Friday, the capture of a terrorist who had planned to carry out a criminal attack in Khurmatu.

In a statement released on Friday, INSS reported that its forces successfully caught a terrorist who was planning to carry out a bombing operation using an explosive device in the Khurmatu district.

According to intelligence information, the suspect was identified as a member of the so-called "Wilayat Kirkuk" organization.

The agency stated that the suspect was in charge of providing logistical support and explosive materials, in addition to promoting terrorist groups through social media platforms.

The suspect admitted to receiving orders from defeated ISIS gangs to carry out a terrorist operation targeting security forces in Khurmatu by planting an explosive device, which he had hidden in a cemetery.
