Kurdistan Region President, Iraqi PM Hold Strategic Talks Amid Push for Constitutional Alignment

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani in Baghdad on Monday, engaging in wide-ranging discussions intended to strengthen federal-regional cooperation and address constitutional obligations.

According to a statement released by the Iraqi Prime Minister's Office, the meeting was centered on the current situation in Iraq and the broader region, highlighting the need to support the federal government's implementation of its governmental program.

The discussions particularly focused on constitutional commitments between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government regarding the federal general budget law, emphasizing the growing importance of fiscal coordination between Baghdad and Erbil.

The Kurdistan Region Presidency issued a parallel statement, underlining discussions on "recent developments at both Iraqi and regional levels," while emphasizing the importance of federal government support in successfully implementing the governmental program "in a manner that ensures fulfillment of citizens' aspirations across the country."

Both leaders indicated the importance of unified cooperation and coordination among all political forces to tackle challenges and remove obstacles, "in a way that serves the interests of all components of the Iraqi people and strengthens national security, stability, and sovereignty," the KRG presidency statement noted.

This meeting signifies an important diplomatic initiative within a broader series of engagements.

Kurdistan Region President Barzani arrived in Baghdad on Sunday evening, participating in the State Administration Coalition meeting, which addressed crucial matters including Kurdistan Region's financial entitlements, oil export resumption, and KRG Council of Ministers' recommendations.
