ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kamal Mohammed, the Minister of Electricity for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), announced on Tuesday that by the end of 2026, all residents of the Kurdistan Region will have access to 24-hour electricity.

Mohammed revealed that the Runaki project has already benefited 80,000 participants and aims to encompass the entire region.

"The plan is to have all the region’s citizens benefit from this service,” Mohammed stated during an interview with Kurdistan24.

He noted that electricity demand spikes to seven megawatts during the winter months. The Runaki project is designed to address and resolve the persistent issue of power shortages throughout the region.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani previously launched the Runaki project in October of last year. This ambitious initiative is set to overhaul the current electricity infrastructure, ensuring continuous power supply to both residents and businesses, thereby reducing the dependency on generators. The project marks a significant advancement in enhancing the region’s energy infrastructure.
