ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Clashes intensified near Tishreen Dam, approximately 70 km southwest of Kobani in Rojava, as Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) targeted Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) positions with drone strikes and artillery.
The confrontation occurred on Friday at the Siritel Hill axis, near the dam, as the SNA attempted to recover the bodies of their fighters under Turkish artillery cover.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) documented the deaths of eight SNA fighters during four operations carried out by the SDF on Thursday night, Jan. 16, into the early hours of Friday. Drone strikes by the SDF also hit key SNA positions near Siritel Hill, leading to heavy exchanges of fire.
Despite intense artillery support from Turkish forces, the SNA was forced to withdraw from the area. No confirmed details have been released regarding casualties on the SDF side.
The region has witnessed escalating violence for the past 36 days, with both sides engaging in heavy artillery bombardments. Civilian and military casualties have been reported, underlining the ongoing toll of the prolonged conflict.
SDF stated that the pro-government Turkish media continues to spread false claims, including a fabricated deal with Iran to acquire 1,500 drones and the unfounded allegations are intended to undermine the credibility of the forces and distort their image in-front of the international stage.
