PM Barzani meets UN Secretary-General in Davos

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2025, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the overall situation in Iraq, with a particular focus on the ongoing issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region. Prime Minister Barzani emphasized the need to uphold the constitutional rights and financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region.
Prime Minister Barzani commended Mohamed al-Hassan, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), for his efforts in addressing the disputes between Erbil and Baghdad and promoting peace and stability across Iraq.
The discussions also covered key developments in the Middle East, including the Gaza ceasefire and the situation in Syria. Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and expressed support for international efforts to ensure peace and stability in Syria.
