ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday extending the deadline for former Assad regime militants to hand over their weapons to Feb. 10, 2025.
In a statement published on its official X account, the SDF confirmed that the extension was granted following requests from civil activists and local leaders in the area to prevent potential unrest.

The SDF explained that after the collapse of the Assad regime, their forces, launched an operation aimed at addressing remnants of the former regime’s military forces. The operation also focuses on collecting weapons and ammunition still in the possession of these individuals.
According to the statement, a significant number of former regime militants and supporters have responded positively to the SDF’s request by surrendering their weapons and other public assets. The extension is intended to provide additional time for others to comply with the disarmament process voluntarily.
The SDF emphasized that this is the final deadline for individuals to hand over their weapons. “After this period, we will address the matter through legal measures,” the statement warned.
The SDF’s efforts are part of broader measures to stabilize regions, previously under the Assad regime’s control, and to prevent the ISIS group from exploiting the change of power in Damascus, by reactivating their sleeping cells and impose influence.
