ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has welcomed the Iraqi Council of Representatives’ approval of a key amendment to the federal budget law, describing it as an important step toward resolving financial disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Kurdistan Region Presidency expressed gratitude to all parties involved in drafting and passing the legislation.

The Regional President extended particular appreciation to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani for his “dedicated and patriotic” role in promoting collaboration between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The statement emphasized the constructive efforts of negotiating teams from both governments, whose work facilitated the agreement’s passage.

It described the amendment’s approval as a positive development that serves the broader interests of Iraq while addressing longstanding financial concerns in the Kurdistan Region.

The statement reiterated that the KRG remains committed to securing a permanent resolution to these matters through continued dialogue and cooperation.

Concluding the statement, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to diplomatic engagement as the primary mechanism for addressing remaining challenges.

He emphasized that mutual understanding and sustained negotiations will be key in fostering long-term stability and economic security for both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
