Kurdistan Region President Hails Peshmerga Brigades Inauguration as a National Milestone

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has commended the establishment of two new brigades within the Ministry of Peshmerga as a momentous national achievement, underlining the significance of the Peshmerga forces in ensuring the region’s security and sovereignty.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Third and Fourth Brigades on Tuesday, Regional President Barzani emphasized the historical and symbolic role of the Peshmerga, stating, "The Peshmerga is not just an ordinary military force but has always been a symbol of heroism and sacrifice, the protector of Kurdistan's security, and an essential part of our national identity. Under the leadership of President Barzani, the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces successfully dismantled the ISIS myth."
Underlining the global recognition of the Peshmerga’s valor, Nechirvan Barzani noted, "The Peshmerga has become a symbol of bravery worldwide and a source of pride for the people of Kurdistan. Among all nations of the world, the name Peshmerga emerged as a heroic warrior in defense of humanity. The inauguration of the Third and Fourth Brigades is an achievement for Kurdistan and an important step toward establishing a unified national force."
President Barzani expressed gratitude to the international coalition, in particular the United States, for their ongoing support in training and unifying the Peshmerga forces.
He emphasized that the establishment of these brigades demonstrates the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to further professionalizing its military and securing long-term stability.
Concluding his address, the Kurdistan Region’s President reiterated that this achievement is a testament to the resilience and sacrifices made by the people of Kurdistan and the Peshmerga forces over several decades.
