Peshmerga Ministry: International Coalition Support Key to Reform Success

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Ministry of Peshmerga announced on Tuesday that it held a meeting with the U.S. Consulate’s Security Cooperation Office in the Kurdistan Region to discuss ongoing military support and reforms.

According to an official statement, Minister of Peshmerga Affairs Shoresh Ismail chaired the meeting, which was attended by Colonel Gavin Rice, head of the U.S. Security Cooperation Office.

The discussions focused on U.S. military assistance to the Peshmerga forces, with Minister Ismail expressing deep appreciation for Washington’s continued support. He emphasized that U.S. and Coalition backing is critical for the success of the Peshmerga reform process and the strengthening of military capabilities.

“The support provided by the United States and its allies plays a crucial role in advancing the reform and enhancing the operational capacity of the Peshmerga forces.” Ismail stated.

The meeting also covered the planned establishment of the 5th and 6th Peshmerga divisions under two separate regional commands. Minister Ismail highlighted that forming these military command structures and infantry divisions represents a vital step toward building a unified and modernized national force.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening coordination between the Peshmerga Ministry and the U.S. Consulate’s Security Cooperation Office, underscoring the importance of continued partnership in advancing military and security cooperation.
