PM Barzani, DEM Party Delegation Discuss Turkey's New Peace Process

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a diplomatic engagement, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received the DEM Party's Imrali delegation on Wednesday, led by parliamentarians Siri Sureyya Onder and Pervin Buldan.
The meeting focused on the ongoing peace efforts in Turkey, underscoring the necessity of resolving the Kurdish issue and fostering regional stability.
The delegation expressed their satisfaction with their visit to the Kurdistan Region, detailing their discussions and engagements aimed at advancing the peace process in Turkey.

They emphasized that a new phase has begun, with the resolution of the Kurdish question becoming an urgent and crucial priority. Furthermore, they commended President Masoud Barzani’s role in promoting dialogue and reconciliation, acknowledging his steadfast support in previous peace initiatives.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani reiterated the importance of seizing every opportunity for peace and stability, emphasizing the value of peaceful coexistence and strengthening ties among the peoples of the region.
He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at ending conflict and violence in Turkey, expressing readiness for cooperation and coordination in the process.
The meeting follows a series of engagements by the DEM Party delegation during their visit to the Kurdistan Region. On Saturday, the delegation, accompanied by Keskin Bayindir, co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), arrived in the Kurdistan Region and was welcomed by Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw. Their itinerary included key meetings with Kurdish leaders:
On Sunday, they met with President Masoud Barzani in Pirmam.
Their discussions with President Barzani focused on potential avenues to advance the stalled peace process and the role of Kurdish political leadership in fostering dialogue.
The delegation is expected to carry Barzani’s perspectives back to Abdullah Ocalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), with whom they have already held two prior meetings regarding the new peace initiative.

On Monday, the delegation met with Nechirvan Barzani, President of Kurdistan Region, in Erbil. Kurdistan Region’s President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed the delegation from Imrali, visiting the Kurdistan Region to engage in discussions regarding the peace process in Turkey.
During the meeting, the Region’s President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized his unwavering commitment to the success of the peace initiative in Turkey, viewing it as a significant and historic opportunity that requires collective effort to foster Kurdish-Turkish brotherhood. He underscored the necessity of peace for all individuals in Turkey and the surrounding region.
He further stated, “We have consistently advocated for the peace process and the resolution of issues through dialogue, as history has shown that conflict and violence do not resolve disputes. I also hope that the PKK will approach this process with a strategic mindset and recognize the importance of seizing this opportunity.”
The delegation’s diplomatic engagement was followed by a meeting on Tuesday with PUK’s leadership in Sulaimani.
The DEM Party delegation's efforts are expected to continue following their return to Northern Kurdistan. The delegation has previously met twice with Abdullah Ocalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), and is expected to hold a third meeting with him to discuss the ongoing peace process.
Meanwhile, DEM Party spokesperson Aysegul Dogan has announced that the party will issue a comprehensive statement regarding the progress of the peace process following the conclusion of the delegation’s meetings in the Kurdistan Region. The outcomes of these discussions could have significant implications for future negotiations and stability in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan.
