ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A violent confrontation erupted south of Duraj village between Kifri and Khurmatu on Wednesday after three shepherds encountered a group of ISIS terrorists. The situation remains tense as firefights continue in the area.
According to Kurdistan24 correspondent Harem Jaf, the three shepherds, who had taken their livestock for grazing near the villages of Maha and Duraj in Nawjul sub-district, unexpectedly came across six ISIS terrorists.
The confrontation quickly escalated into an intense firefight.
Jaf reported that several animals have been killed in the ongoing clashes, but there is no confirmed information yet regarding casualties among the shepherds or the ISIS terrorists.
As the battle unfolded, a Peshmerga force was dispatched to the scene to provide support and neutralize the threat.
Heavy gunfire continues to be heard as the Peshmerga engage the ISIS members in an attempt to secure the area and protect civilians.
This incident underscores the persistent security challenges posed by ISIS remnants in the region.
Despite territorial losses, ISIS militants continue to exploit remote areas for operations, targeting both civilians and security forces. The Kurdistan Region's security apparatus remains on high alert, with Peshmerga and Iraqi forces coordinating to prevent further insurgent activities.
Local authorities have urged residents to exercise caution, particularly in rural and unprotected areas, as security forces intensify efforts to eliminate ISIS threats. More updates are expected as the situation develops and as security forces provide further details on the ongoing battle.
