PM Barzani reaffirms commitment to Kurdish language on International Mother Language Day
In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister highlighted Kurdish as the official language of the Kurdistan Region and one of Iraq’s two official languages, as recognized by the Iraqi Constitution.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a message marking International Mother Language Day, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his congratulations to all Kurds and emphasized the importance of preserving and developing the Kurdish language.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister highlighted Kurdish as the official language of the Kurdistan Region and one of Iraq’s two official languages, as recognized by the Iraqi Constitution. He called on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), as well as cultural, scientific, and academic institutions, to prioritize efforts to strengthen and promote the language, stating that it is a fundamental pillar of Kurdish national identity.
Additionally, Barzani reaffirmed the KRG’s dedication to safeguarding the linguistic heritage of all ethnic communities within the Kurdistan Region, underscoring the government's commitment to diversity and cultural preservation.
International Mother Language Day, observed annually on Feb. 21, promotes linguistic diversity and the protection of all languages worldwide.
