ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has welcomed a message from imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, calling for the disarmament of the PKK. The statement, delivered by Ahmet Türk on Thursday, has sparked fresh hope for a peaceful resolution to the long-standing conflict.

In response, the Kurdistan Region Presidency urged the PKK to heed Ocalan’s message, emphasizing that a peaceful, civil, and democratic struggle is the best path forward.

“It is time for a peaceful, civil, and democratic struggle; better results will be achieved through this, not through weapons and violence,” the statement affirmed.

President Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s unwavering support for the peace process and expressed willingness to contribute to its success.

“We in the Kurdistan Region fully support the peace process and are ready to play whatever role we can to ensure its success,” Barzani stated.

He also acknowledged the Turkish government’s role in previous peace efforts and commended the Turkish president and the AK Party government for their vision of reconciliation.

Looking ahead, the Kurdistan Region expressed optimism that this renewed call for peace will lead to a new stability phase, with broader participation from all parties involved.

“We hope that the next stage will be a successful phase of peace and resolution, with the participation and solidarity of other parties in Turkey, leading to peace and stability in the country and the entire region,” the statement concluded.
