Erbil (Kurdistan 24) – Secretary of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS), Mohammed Ismail, announced that significant progress has been made toward Kurdish political unity following a key meeting between KNCS and the Democratic Union Party (PYD). The talks, held in Hasakah Northeast Syria (Rojava), were attended by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander Mazloum Abdi and a U.S. envoy.

Ismail described the meeting as "very positive," emphasizing that crucial issues were addressed to establish a unified Kurdish political vision in Syria. "This was the first official meeting with PYD, held in the presence of Mazloum Abdi and the U.S. envoy. We took significant steps toward unity and ensuring Kurdish representation in Syria’s future," he stated.

He further revealed that all parties welcomed the developments, and an official announcement will be made in the coming days regarding a committee that will engage in discussions with Damascus. "I view these steps with optimism. Previous concerns and obstacles have been resolved, and we hope to deliver positive news to our people after Newroz regarding Kurdish political unity and the formation of the delegation that will defend Kurdish rights in Damascus," he said.

Formation of a Joint Kurdish Delegation

One of the most significant outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to form a joint Kurdish delegation to negotiate with the Syrian government. The final selection of delegation members is the only remaining step before it commences its mission in Damascus.

KNCS spokesperson Faisal Youssef emphasized the importance of reviving intra-Kurdish dialogue, stating, "The meeting was held in a spirit of brotherhood, friendship, and national interest. The return of Kurdish political dialogue after five years is a vital step toward a unified Kurdish stance and securing the rights of the Kurdish people in Syria’s future."

He also highlighted that the discussions played a crucial role in overcoming previous obstacles that hindered the formation of a unified Kurdish delegation. "Our voice represents the Kurdish people, and we will spare no effort in serving them," Youssef affirmed.

Strengthening Kurdish Representation

The meeting marks a pivotal moment in efforts to establish a cohesive Kurdish political strategy in Syria. While the planned Kurdish unity conference has been postponed until after Newroz, the progress made in recent discussions signals a renewed commitment to Kurdish cooperation.
