ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Two members of the Peshmerga forces were injured on Monday afternoon when a drone exploded at a checkpoint in the Amedi district of Duhok province.
Bewar Hilmi, a reporter for Kurdistan24, said the incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Dava Hill, near the village of Balava. According to initial reports, Peshmerga forces spotted the drone and attempted to neutralize it by opening fire. However, the device detonated at their position, resulting in injuries.
The injured Peshmerga members were immediately transported to the emergency hospital in Amedi for treatment.
Masoud Taheer, deputy director of the health directorate in Amedi, told Kurdistan24 that both individuals sustained minor injuries. “One was hit by a fragment of the drone, while the other suffered a leg injury. Their ages are 32 and 35,” he said.
It remains unclear who deployed the drone. Clashes between the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Turkish forces in the border regions have frequently endangered civilians and caused extensive damage to agriculture and tourism in the area.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
