ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), on Tuesday expressed gratitude to the United States for lifting sanctions on Syria, calling the move a positive step toward the country's recovery.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Abdi thanked US President Donald Trump for the decision, emphasizing its potential to contribute to national stability and reconstruction efforts.

“We thank US President Donald Trump… for his decision to lift sanctions on Syria, which has had a positive impact on the country,” Abdi stated. “We hope this step will be used to support stability and reconstruction, ensuring a better future for all Syrians. Syria always deserves the best.”

The statement comes amid growing calls from regional actors for international support to rebuild war-torn areas and encourage long-term peace and development across Syria. The SDF, backed by the US-led coalition in the fight against ISIS, remains a key player in maintaining security in northeastern Syria (Rojava).

US officials have not immediately commented further on the scope of sanctions relief or future policy directions.
