ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani is set to arrive in Tehran on Saturday evening, following the conclusion of his official visit to Baghdad, according to an official statement by the Kurdistan Regional Presidency.

President Barzani’s visit to the Iranian capital comes at the invitation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to participate in the Tehran Dialogue Forum (TDF)—a high-level diplomatic platform aimed at fostering regional cooperation and dialogue. The forum is scheduled to begin on Sunday.

The Kurdistan Regional Presidency stated that Barzani’s attendance reflects the Kurdistan Region’s enduring support for diplomatic dialogue and its commitment to strengthening foundational cooperation between nations and peoples in pursuit of peace, stability, and sustainable development across the Middle East.

During the TDF, President Barzani is expected to present the Kurdistan Region’s perspective on the region’s future, stressing the principles of mutual respect and shared interests as the foundation for peaceful coexistence and collective security.

The visit will also include high-level meetings with senior Iranian leaders and officials. Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations between Iran and both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as broader developments in the region.

"The TDF 2025 will convene senior officials from 53 countries, including Persian Gulf ministers and European delegations, on May 18–19, 2025, to discuss regional and global issues, marking a key diplomatic gathering for Iran," Iran's Foreign Ministry wrote on X.

President Barzani’s visit to Tehran follows strategic discussions in Baghdad, underscoring Erbil’s role in bridging national and regional divides. His participation in the Tehran Dialogue Forum signals the Kurdistan Region’s growing diplomatic engagement and its positioning as a key actor in efforts to stabilize an increasingly volatile Middle East.
