PM Barzani, US Senator Bill Hagerty Discuss Strengthening Ties in Washington

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty on Wednesday in Washington to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced.

The meeting underscored growing ties between the Kurdistan Region and the United States, particularly in the economic and energy sectors. Senator Hagerty voiced his support for a recent agreement between the KRG and two U.S. energy companies, describing the deal as a significant step forward in enhancing trade and investment between the two sides.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed gratitude for continued U.S. support and emphasized the importance of deepening strategic relations, especially in areas of economic development and regional stability.

Both sides also reaffirmed the need to uphold the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights and federal status within Iraq, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and cooperation in ensuring long-term stability and prosperity.

The meeting is part of Barzani’s ongoing visit to the United States, aimed at reinforcing international partnerships and attracting investment to the Kurdistan Region.
