PM Barzani, Swedish Envoy Discuss Bilateral Ties, Migration, and Climate Cooperation

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday welcomed Swedish Chargé d’Affaires, Ambassador Jörgen Lindström, for high-level talks focused on expanding cooperation and addressing regional challenges.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, featured a wide-ranging exchange of views on strengthening bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Sweden, as well as on broader developments across Iraq and the Middle East.
Among the key topics discussed were the active role of the Kurdish diaspora in Sweden and its contributions to social and cultural integration. The issue of migration also featured prominently, with both parties emphasizing the importance of managing migration flows in a humane and constructive manner.
Climate change and its increasingly visible impacts were another point of focus. Prime Minister Barzani and Envoy Lindström discussed the need for sustainable environmental cooperation and strategies to mitigate ecological risks across the region.

The two sides also addressed several other matters of mutual interest, reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening partnership across political, economic, and environmental domains.
The meeting underscored the Kurdistan Region’s continued engagement with international partners and its efforts to build resilient, forward-looking diplomatic relations.
