ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a forceful display of coordinated military resolve, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had supported six targeted anti-ISIS operations across Iraq and Syria between May 21 and 27, resulting in the elimination and capture of key ISIS figures and the disruption of extremist capabilities.
According to an official statement released on CENTCOM’s X platform on Tuesday, the U.S. military, in collaboration with Iraqi forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), executed five operations in Iraq and one in Syria, leading to the deaths of two ISIS operatives and the arrest of two others, including a high-ranking leader.
“These operations serve to disrupt and degrade ISIS' ability to reconstitute, plan, organize, and conduct attacks against civilians and U.S. and partner forces in the region,” CENTCOM emphasized.

Joint Operations in Syria and Iraq
From May 21 to 22, U.S. forces enabled the SDF in a precision operation near Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria, culminating in the successful capture of an ISIS operative. This mission further cemented the role of the Kurdish-led SDF in combating terrorism in the region, particularly in former ISIS strongholds.
Meanwhile, between May 21 and 27, Iraqi security forces—with CENTCOM support—conducted wide-ranging counterterrorism operations across the Salah al-Din and Kirkuk governorates, as well as in the Al-Fallujah area. These operations led to the destruction of several ISIS positions, the confiscation of small arms and munitions, and the capture of an ISIS commander. In addition to two militants killed in action, sensitive materials were recovered for further intelligence exploitation.
A Message of Endurance and Commitment
The operations were conducted under the umbrella of the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), the multinational coalition established in 2014 to defeat ISIS.
“Operations like these underscore the commitment of USCENTCOM, along with our allies and partners, to the enduring defeat of ISIS in the region,” stated CENTCOM Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla.
Strategic Cooperation Continues
The renewed operational tempo arrives amid broader efforts by the U.S. to eliminate residual ISIS cells, especially in disputed and border regions where sleeper networks remain active. The continued collaboration between CENTCOM.
The announcement reaffirms Washington’s sustained commitment to its local partners and underscores the enduring significance of multilateral coordination in securing long-term peace and security across Iraq and Syria.
