ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A senior Iranian official has warned that Tehran will expand its attacks against Israel and will strike regional military bases of any country that attempts to defend the Israeli state, according to a report by CNN.
Speaking to CNN’s Fred Pleitgen on Friday, the unnamed Iranian official stated, “Iran reserves the right – under international law – to respond decisively to this regime.”
He added, “Any country that attempts to defend the regime against Iran’s operations will, in turn, see its regional bases and positions become new targets.”
The threat follows a day of major escalation between Israel and Iran, beginning with Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military targets and a retaliatory barrage of long-range Iranian missiles that struck multiple areas in Israel, including Tel Aviv.
Earlier Friday, both U.S. and Israeli officials told CNN that the U.S. military had assisted in intercepting incoming Iranian missiles targeting Israel. One Israeli source added that other regional countries also contributed to Israel's air defense efforts.
The remarks from Tehran suggest the potential for a wider regional conflict if other nations become directly involved in supporting Israel’s military response or defense systems.
