ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A civilian woman was killed on Sunday in Syria’s western province of Tartus after a drone crashed into her home, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported. This marks the first recorded civilian fatality on Syrian soil since the military escalation between Iran and Israel began.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the drone—believed to be Iranian—fell in a rural area of Tartus province, striking a house and killing the woman instantly.

Since the outbreak of hostilities between Israel and Iran, dozens of missiles have been seen crossing the Syrian sky, with several intercepted mid-air across various regions. local residents have documented multiple explosions linked to aerial interceptions.

On Friday, Israel launched a sweeping military campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure. The operation, which Israeli officials stated aims to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, resulted in the deaths of high-ranking Iranian officials including Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Hussein Salami, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri, and nine nuclear scientists.

The spiraling military conflict has raised widespread concern among Syrians, who fear that their already war-ravaged country could become further embroiled in the confrontation.

According to SOHR, Since the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on military sites inside Syria, citing efforts to prevent advanced weaponry from reaching the new authorities in Damascus—whom Israel regards as jihadist in nature.
