ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday denounced Israel’s military strikes on Iran, labeling them a “dangerous escalation” during two separate phone calls with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to a statement from the Kremlin, Putin emphasized that Russia condemns Israel’s actions, describing them as a “violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.” The Russian leader also expressed his readiness to mediate in order to prevent further escalation in the region, cautioning against the “devastating consequences for the entire Middle East.”

Russia Rejects Strikes on Sovereign State

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a strongly worded statement, calling the Israeli attacks “unjustified military strikes on a sovereign UN member state, its citizens, peaceful cities, nuclear sites, and energy infrastructure,” and deemed them “completely unacceptable.”

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov echoed the concern, telling Russian media outlets that “Russia is deeply concerned and strongly condemns the sharp rise in tensions.”

Iran Reiterates Peaceful Nuclear Intentions

The Iranian presidency stated that during his call with Putin, President Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons, and expressed Iran’s continued willingness to provide guarantees to relevant international bodies.

Putin’s direct engagement with both sides underscores Moscow’s growing involvement in efforts to defuse the escalating confrontation between Israel and Iran, amid mounting international alarm over the prospect of a broader regional conflict.
