ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed on Thursday that diplomatic efforts are ongoing to prevent further escalation between Iran and Israel, as regional and global concerns grow over the potential for a broader conflict.

Speaking exclusively to Kurdistan24 on the sidelines of an economic forum in St. Petersburg, Zakharova said, “The president and her country are continuing their efforts within the framework of the UN Security Council to halt the conflict.”

She also highlighted Russia’s position on the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), criticizing Western attempts to politicize its work. “There is an effort by some Western countries to use the IAEA as a tool of pressure. We strongly oppose this,” she said, reaffirming Moscow’s support for the agency’s independent and fact-based operations.

Zakharova further noted that the United States has also voiced concerns about the severe risks of a full-scale war between Iran and Israel, warning that such a conflict could spiral out of control.

Her remarks come amid intensifying international diplomacy aimed at containing tensions and preserving regional stability.
