ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — At least five Iranian army personnel were killed and nine others wounded in an Israeli airstrike on the western Iranian city of Sumar in Kermanshah province on Saturday, Iranian media reported, as explosions rocked several cities across the country — according to AFP.

The Fars news agency, citing a provincial official, confirmed the casualties in Kermanshah province following the Israeli attack. “Five army officers were killed and nine others were wounded in today’s attack by the Israeli regime on the western city of Sumar,” the official was quoted as saying.

As fighting between the two regional rivals stretched into its ninth consecutive day, AFP journalists in Tehran reported hearing multiple loud blasts in the capital, particularly in the northern and central districts. It remained unclear whether the explosions were caused by incoming Israeli strikes or Iran’s air defense responses.

In the southwest, the Iranian daily Shargh reported “powerful explosions” in Ahvaz, the capital of oil-rich Khuzestan province near the Iraqi border. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed strikes in the region, targeting what it called “military infrastructure” used in recent attacks on Israeli territory.

IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated on X that approximately 30 Israeli warplanes conducted a series of raids on dozens of military targets in Ahvaz using 50 precision-guided munitions. Among the targets were missile launch platforms, radar systems, and other strategic infrastructure believed to support Iran’s military operations against Israel.

"Air Force fighter jets struck a military site containing missile launchers—some of which were used to fire at Israel—as well as radar systems and facilities for building an aerial intelligence picture," Adraee said. He emphasized that the IDF continues to expand its operations against the Iranian regime’s military capabilities "to protect the security of Israeli citizens."

Saturday's airstrikes mark an intensification of Israel’s campaign to degrade Iran’s offensive assets. Israel says it will persist with its operations until the threat is eliminated.

The ongoing confrontation has alarmed the international community, with global powers urging restraint amid fears of a broader regional war. However, both sides show no signs of de-escalation as military operations deepen and the human toll continues to rise.
