ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a special overnight operation in southern Syria, capturing an Iran-backed militant cell and seizing weapons, according to a statement issued Wednesday by Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesperson, on X.

The operation was conducted by the IDF’s 474th Brigade, part of the 210th Division, in the areas of Umm Al-Luqas and Ain Al-Basali. According to the statement, the cell was directed by Iran and had been under surveillance for weeks based on intelligence gathered from field interrogations conducted by Unit 504, the Israeli military’s field intelligence and interrogation unit.

“The special nighttime operation resulted in the arrest of several operatives from the Iran-linked cell,” Adraee said, adding that weapons and hand grenades were found at the scene.

The IDF confirmed that it will continue its operations in Syria to prevent any terrorist group from establishing a foothold near Israel’s borders. The statement emphasized that these efforts are intended to safeguard Israeli citizens, particularly those living in the Golan Heights region.
