PM Barzani, UN Envoy Discuss Kurdistan Region Constitutional Rights
During the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of upholding Iraq’s federal system and reaffirmed the constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met on Thursday with Mohamed al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), to discuss key developments in Iraq and the broader region.
During the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of upholding Iraq’s federal system and reaffirmed the constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region. They also emphasized the need to safeguard the financial rights and entitlements of the Kurdish people.
The talks stressed the importance of resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government through constitutional mechanisms. Both sides also highlighted the shared priority of preserving security and stability across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
