Kurdistan Region President, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Push for Urgent Resolution to Salary Crisis
During talks in Erbil, the two leaders reviewed the broader state of Erbil‑Baghdad relations and agreed that a “suitable solution” to the public‑sector salary issue is critical in what they described as a “sensitive period” for the country.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al‑Mashhadani pledged on Sunday to accelerate efforts to resolve the long‑standing salary dispute between Erbil and Baghdad, the Kurdistan Region Presidency said in a statement.
During talks in Erbil, the two leaders reviewed the broader state of Erbil‑Baghdad relations and agreed that a “suitable solution” to the public‑sector salary issue is critical in what they described as a “sensitive period” for the country.
Both sides voiced “hope and optimism” that ongoing negotiations—and what they called an emerging roadmap—will soon deliver a lasting settlement. Resolving outstanding disagreements with the Kurdistan Region is “in the best interest of all Iraq,” they stressed.
The Kurdistan Region President thanked Speaker al‑Mashhadani for his personal engagement and vowed to keep working closely with federal authorities until a concrete agreement is reached.
