ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Israeli army announced on Saturday that its forces have destroyed several forward military positions belonging to the former Syrian regime in southern Syria, continuing a wave of operations that Israeli officials describe as part of preemptive measures to secure the country's northern front.

In a post published on X, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said that the 810th Mountain Brigade, operating under the 210th Division, is continuing “precision-guided activities” inside Syrian territory.

“During one of the operations, forces from the 810th Brigade’s reserve battalion, in coordination with fighters from the elite engineering unit Yahalom, demolished several positions affiliated with the deposed Syrian regime,” Adraee stated.

He explained that the targeted sites posed a “direct threat to Israeli army positions in the Mount Hermon region,” describing the installations as forming “a forward enemy line” along the mountain peak.

Ongoing Israeli campaign in southern Syria

The operation is part of an ongoing military campaign that Israeli forces say aims to dismantle emerging threats along the border, particularly in the strategically sensitive southern Syrian region near the occupied Golan Heights.

Adraee emphasized that the operations are “preemptive” and designed to “protect the security of Israeli citizens and the residents of the Golan Heights in particular.”

Talks under way between Israel and Syria

Meanwhile, Syrian sources informed the German news agency DPA that direct talks are underway between Israel and Syria. The discussions reportedly revolve around “limited security arrangements” and the potential withdrawal of Israeli forces from territories it controls in southern Syria following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime.

According to the same sources, Syrian Interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa demands a full Israeli withdrawal from areas seized post-Assad and is firmly opposed to any expansion of the buffer zone in southern Syria.

The recent developments come amid increasing regional military activity, as well as shifting political dynamics following international efforts to revive disengagement agreements and stabilize Syria’s fragmented landscape.
