ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) — Ahmad al-Imam, the special cultural representative of Yemen's Ansarullah movement (the political wing of Houthis) in Iran, described Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as "the strong fortress of the Islamic Ummah" in remarks published by Iran's Tasnim News Agency on Monday. He said Iran’s performance in the recent 12-day conflict with Israel was not only a national triumph, but a victory for the broader Muslim world.
Al-Imam's comments come against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the region, particularly following a wave of Israeli airstrikes targeting Houthi-controlled sites in Yemen. According to AFP, the Israeli military launched attacks early Monday on the strategic Red Sea port city of Hodeida and other key locations, including Ras Isa and Salif. The Israeli army confirmed it had "struck and destroyed terror infrastructure belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime" in response to ongoing missile attacks by the Iran-aligned group.
Shortly after the strikes, the Israeli military reported that two missiles were launched from Yemen toward Israel, adding that its air defense systems were actively engaged in intercepting the projectiles. The Houthi-run Al-Masirah television channel confirmed Israeli strikes on Hodeida port, Ras Isa, Salif, and the Ras Al-Kathib power station.
Speaking to Tasnim, al-Imam emphasized what he called Khamenei’s “wise measures and war management,” crediting the Supreme Leader with maintaining stability within Iran during the 12-day conflict. “Iran’s victory was not exclusive to Iran; rather, it is a victory for the Islamic Ummah,” he stated.
According to Tasnim, recent polls have indicated a rise in Khamenei’s popularity beyond Iran’s borders, including in the Arab world and Europe. The outlet attributed this trend partly to public reactions following threats allegedly made against Khamenei by U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the 12-day conflict.
Al-Imam further stated that Khamenei’s stature among Muslims comes from “his connection with God Almighty and his profound and strong trust in God Almighty,” positioning him as a symbol of resistance throughout the region. “He is the main supporter of the resistance and the mujahideen in Palestine and on all battlefronts,” al-Imam added.
He also highlighted Khamenei’s long-standing efforts to promote unity among Muslims, saying the Supreme Leader has worked to extinguish sectarian divisions and “direct the focus of enmity towards […] America, and Israel.”
Commenting on the U.S. President Trump’s alleged threat, al-Imam characterized it as part of psychological and media warfare. “Such threats are devoid of value and credibility from the world’s perspective and are rejected,” he said, arguing that any backlash from such rhetoric would ultimately harm the United States and its allies.
Al-Imam’s comments reflect Ansarullah’s continued alignment with Iran’s regional policies and underscore the ongoing efforts by Tehran and its allies to frame recent confrontations as part of a broader ideological and geopolitical struggle.
