'Kurdistan Was Victorious' in Cup Final, Says PM Barzani

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani congratulated both Duhok and Zakho after the all-Kurdistan Iraq Cup final, stating "Kurdistan was victorious." Duhok won the title 5-3 on penalties.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has congratulated both Duhok SC and Zakho SC following their all-Kurdistan final in the Iraq Cup, declaring that regardless of the match's outcome, "the important thing is that Kurdistan was victorious."

In a statement on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister acknowledged both teams' performance in securing the top two spots in the national tournament.

"Congratulations to both the Duhok and Zakho teams for winning first and second place in the Iraq Cup," Prime Minister Barzani wrote. "I wish continued success for both teams. The important thing is that Kurdistan was victorious."

The Prime Minister's comments came after Duhok SC clinched the Iraq Cup title in a historic final against fellow Kurdistan Region club Zakho SC.

The match ended in a 0-0 goalless draw after 120 minutes of play, leading to a dramatic penalty shootout. Duhok SC won the shootout 5 to 3, securing a historic triumph for the club and its fans.
