Rubio Condemns France’s Push to Recognize Palestinian State at UN
“This reckless decision only serves Hamas propaganda and sets back peace. It is a slap in the face to the victims of October 7th,” Rubio wrote on X.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday sharply criticized French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement that France will officially recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations this September, calling it a “reckless decision.”
“This reckless decision only serves Hamas propaganda and sets back peace. It is a slap in the face to the victims of October 7th,” Rubio wrote on X, referring to the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel that ignited the ongoing war in Gaza.
Rubio’s remarks come amid growing international divisions over the path to peace in the Middle East. France is among several European countries advocating for the recognition of Palestinian statehood, arguing that it is essential for achieving a two-state solution. On Thursday, French President announced that France would formally recognize a Palestinian state during a UN meeting in September.
However, the move has drawn criticism from Israel and its allies, who view such recognition as premature and potentially emboldening militant groups.
