An Unforgettable Day in Erbil: U.S. Envoys Explore the City’s Cultural and Historical Landmarks

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Acting U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Steven Fagin, accompanied by U.S. Consul General in Erbil Wendy Green, spent a full day discovering the historic and cultural fabric of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.

The tour began in the heart of the city’s old quarter, where the two diplomats strolled through the narrow alleys of the Qaysari Bazaar. They paused to observe traditional handicrafts and local products that embody the city’s deep-rooted history.

Flavors of Erbil

To taste the city’s culinary traditions, Fagin and Green sampled Erbil’s famous kebab and later sipped tea at the heritage café “Mam Khalil.” The café, considered a cultural and social hub for locals, provided the diplomats with a glimpse into the daily life and convivial spirit of the city.

The tour also included a stop at the bookstore of Sirwan Najm, one of Erbil’s most renowned booksellers. The gesture was a nod to the city’s vibrant cultural and intellectual life, which continues to thrive at the crossroads of tradition and modernity.
