KRG PM Masrour Barzani Inaugurates Shekhan–Lalish Road in Duhok
Erbil (Kurdistan24) – In a symbolic ceremony marked by pride and resilience, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated Shekhan–Lalish dual carriageway in Duhok province on Saturday, one year after laying its foundation stone.

The 9-kilometer road, built to international standards with a width of 25 meters, was completed at a cost exceeding 26 billion dinars. The project is set to transform travel for thousands of pilgrims who flock annually to the sacred Lalish temple, easing their journeys and reducing the hardships long associated with reaching the holy site.

Standing before the backdrop of Duhok’s serene hills, Prime Minister Barzani emphasized that the new road is more than infrastructure—it is a lifeline for worshippers and a gesture of respect for the Yezidi community, who preserved their faith and culture despite enduring genocides and immense suffering.
He praised the Shekhan–Lalish area as a living example of coexistence and tolerance among Kurdistan’s diverse components, pledging that his government will continue to serve the region and provide for its people.
“This is part of Kurdistan’s ongoing reconstruction,” Barzani affirmed, stressing that despite challenges, the government will not waver in its mission to serve citizens and improve livelihoods.
The project’s inauguration captures both a physical milestone and a symbolic renewal of commitment—connecting communities, honoring Yezidi resilience, and reinforcing Kurdistan’s path of peace, coexistence, and progress.
