ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, during which the two leaders discussed the latest regional developments and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Presidency.
During the conversation, both sides expressed concern over escalating tensions in the region and underscored the need to prevent further instability. They highlighted the importance of strengthening international efforts aimed at de-escalation and resolving disputes through peaceful and diplomatic means.
The discussion also covered several issues of mutual interest between the Kurdistan Region and France, the statement added.
The phone call comes amid heightened regional tensions following airstrikes launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on Saturday morning, which killed several senior Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran launched missile attacks targeting Israel and several US military bases across the region, raising concerns about a broader regional escalation.
