Drone Debris Hits Café in Erbil’s Iskan Neighborhood, No Casualties Reported
Drone debris from an intercepted aerial threat struck a café in Erbil’s Iskan neighborhood, causing heavy damage but no casualties, according to Kurdistan24.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - A late-night incident in Erbil sent shockwaves through a residential neighborhood after debris from a destroyed drone crashed into a café, causing significant damage but no loss of life.
On Thursday, a Kurdistan24 correspondent reported from the Iskan neighborhood that remnants of a drone, intercepted in the skies over Erbil the previous night, fell onto a café in the area.
The impact created a large hole in the roof of the café, shattering windows and damaging furniture throughout the premises. The incident triggered fear and panic among residents, particularly as the neighborhood is entirely civilian with no military or security facilities nearby.
Fakher Hariri, the owner of the café, described the moment of impact. “We heard a very powerful explosion, then we saw the roof of the café and the glass collapse onto the tables and chairs,” he told Kurdistan24.
He emphasized that the area is purely civilian, adding that the incident caused significant psychological distress among residents, especially women and children.
Despite the extensive material damage, Hariri expressed relief that no one was inside the café at the time of the incident.
Emergency and security teams quickly arrived at the scene following the strike to collect the debris and investigate the type of drone that had been intercepted over the capital.
The incident underscores the risks posed by falling debris following aerial interceptions, even when threats are successfully neutralized.
