Ali al-Zaidi: Iraq Continues Efforts to Root Out Corruption
Iraq’s Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi stresses government-parliament coordination, anti-corruption efforts and economic reforms during a meeting with lawmakers.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi on Tuesday stressed the importance of integration and coordination between Parliament and the government to confront the challenges facing the country, with combating corruption and strengthening institutions among the government’s priorities.
On Tuesday, Zaidi received Faleh Hassan al-Khazali, head of the Montasiroun parliamentary bloc, along with members of the bloc.
According to the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting addressed several files and issues related to citizens’ services, livelihoods, the economy and the environment, alongside other national matters.
Zaidi said the government has developed an economic vision based on activating productive sectors, alongside preparations to formulate a program-based and performance-oriented budget.
He also highlighted continued efforts to address the challenges facing Iraq, foremost among them combating corruption and strengthening institutional work.
The Iraqi prime minister outlined the government’s direction toward more effective investment in the country’s oil resources by increasing production levels and developing industries linked to the energy sector.
He also said the establishment of “energy cities” would help create more employment opportunities and provide a broader foundation for domestic and foreign investment.
Zaidi called on members of the Iraqi Parliament to support the government’s efforts by approving a program-based and performance-oriented budget.
He said such a budget would bring fundamental change to Iraq’s economic reality, improve spending efficiency and link resources to development outcomes and objectives.
For his part, Faleh Hassan al-Khazali stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination between the legislative and executive branches.
He expressed his bloc’s support for government policies aimed at combating corruption and strengthening economic reforms and development.
Al-Khazali also referred to follow-up efforts and investigations conducted by his bloc into several files, particularly those related to regulating foreign workers and pursuing corruption cases.
He stressed the continued oversight and legislative role of Parliament in a way that supports the reform process.
The attending lawmakers also expressed their readiness to continue cooperation and coordination with the government in supporting its economic and development programs and plans, with the aim of improving public services and citizens’ livelihoods.
They also stressed the importance of integrating efforts between the legislative and executive branches to address the challenges facing the country.
