ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Prominent Kurdish politician Leyla Zana has strongly condemned a drone attack targeting the private office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, expressing solidarity with Barzani and saying the attack would not undermine the Kurdish people’s pursuit of freedom.
In a message addressed to Prime Minister Barzani on Monday, Zana said she “strongly condemns” the attack and called on both friends and adversaries to recognize what she described as “the century of freedom for the Kurdish people.”
“Let friends and enemies alike know that this is the century of freedom for the Kurdish people,” Zana said in the message, signed as “Your sister, Leyla Zana.”
She also concluded her message by praying for the protection of everyone.
Earlier on Monday, the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) said that two Iranian-made Hadid-110 explosive drones had targeted Barzani’s private office and the home of the head of the Kurdistan Region’s Security and Intelligence Agency (Parastin).
No casualties were reported in the attacks, while investigations were underway to determine the extent of the damage.
The attack on Barzani’s office has drawn widespread condemnation from Kurdish, Iraqi, and international officials, with several parties calling for restraint and the protection of the Kurdistan Region’s security and stability.
