Iraq and Saudi Arabia Discuss Strengthening Border Security Cooperation
Senior Iraqi and Saudi security and military officials met in Baghdad to discuss tighter control of their shared border and expanded intelligence cooperation.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iraq and Saudi Arabia are moving to strengthen security and intelligence coordination, with senior officials from both countries meeting in Baghdad on Thursday to discuss tighter border controls and broader information sharing.
On Thursday, the director of the office of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, the head of the National Intelligence Service, and directors of Iraqi security and intelligence agencies received a senior Saudi security and military delegation in Baghdad.
Iraq’s Security Media Cell said in a statement that the meeting came as a continuation of previous talks between Riyadh and Baghdad aimed at maintaining joint security coordination.
The meeting focused on strengthening measures to control the countries’ shared border and expanding the exchange of intelligence information, according to the statement.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation through closer coordination and intelligence sharing, with the aim of raising the level of security cooperation between Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
They also reaffirmed their shared commitment to consolidating and developing security mechanisms in a way that would have a positive impact on security and stability in both countries.
