ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The 16th International Construction Expo opened Thursday at the Erbil International Fairgrounds, drawing senior government officials and international businesses in what organizers describe as one of the largest specialized construction gatherings in Iraq and the wider region.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Municipalities Sasan Awni, Erbil Governor Omed Xoshnaw, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government Safeen Dizayee, and Chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment Mohammed Shukri, along with a large gathering of business-people and investors.

The expo brought together a wide range of local companies alongside major international firms from Türkiye, Iran, and Arab and European countries. Participating companies presented their latest technologies in electrical systems, power cables and transformers; renewable energy, particularly solar power; heavy machinery and equipment used in road construction and industrial excavation; and modern materials and techniques in architectural design and construction for the housing and industrial sectors.

The construction sector represents the backbone of the Kurdistan Region's economy and a key pillar for job creation and commercial activity. The expo comes amid the rapid architectural growth Erbil has seen over the past two decades, which has made the city a leading hub for foreign companies seeking to work in the markets of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

The event forms part of the Kurdistan Regional Government's broader efforts to modernize infrastructure and support strategic projects by offering facilitation for investors, even as financial pressures continue to shape how projects are implemented.
