Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Arrives in UAE for Official Visit

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday for an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he is scheduled to meet UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to a Kurdistan Regional Government statement.

The visit marks another high-level engagement between the Kurdistan Region and the UAE, which have maintained close political, diplomatic and economic relations in recent years.

The KRG statement did not immediately provide further details on the agenda for the meeting with Sheikh Mohamed.

Barzani last traveled to the UAE on Feb. 2, 2026, when he visited Dubai at the official invitation of UAE Vice President and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to participate in the World Governments Summit.

During that visit, the prime minister held a series of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the summit, including talks with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Relations between Erbil and Abu Dhabi have expanded across political and commercial fields, with senior officials from the Kurdistan Region making regular visits to the UAE.

Emirati companies have also established a significant presence in the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the energy and investment sectors.

The UAE maintains a consulate general in Erbil, providing another institutional channel for cooperation between the two sides.

Tuesday's visit comes as both governments continue to emphasize stronger trade, investment and political ties.

The scheduled meeting between Barzani and Sheikh Mohamed is expected to provide an opportunity to review bilateral relations and discuss issues of mutual interest.
