Iran Says It Has Launched ‘Decisive Operation’ Against US Targets

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iranian media reported Tuesday that the country’s armed forces had launched a “decisive operation” against US targets across the region, following a fresh round of US strikes on Iranian military positions near the Strait of Hormuz.
The Tasnim news agency reported that the operation had begun in response to the United States, saying US bases and interests in the region were being targeted by Iranian missiles and drones.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its strikes began at noon Eastern Time and targeted several military positions belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in areas surrounding the strategic waterway.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes followed recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as attacks targeting US service members deployed in the region.
US President Donald Trump said the US strikes were carried out in retaliation for what he described as Iran’s “failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait” and an Iranian missile attack on a US military base in Jordan.
“The United States is, as we speak, striking Iranian Targets near the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social, describing the operation as “large and powerful.”
Trump said there were currently no mines in the waterway, claiming they had either been removed or detonated.
He also said Iran had fired eight missiles at a US military base in Jordan, all of which he claimed were successfully intercepted.
“If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level,” Trump warned.
Trump added that a larger US attack was being prepared and could leave “very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The latest escalation has further intensified tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes and a key passage for global oil and gas shipments.
